This is indeed the Most Haunted Airfield of War Time ! with over 30 spirits and two poltergeist activities.
The throaty rumble of the Lancaster's was a familiar sound over RAF Hemswell during the Second World War, as the bombers returned from another raid over Germany.
But mysteriously, today they're being heard again, over 50 years since the last Lancaster returned safely from the war's final mission.
Preparing for War at RAF Hemswell
Stranger still, today's visitors to the former wartime airfield at RAF Hemswell report being challenged by sentries who vanish, or have seen men in vintage aircrew uniform walking or hanging around the hangers and even heard 1940s' music playing around the buildings. The problem is, this is During The Day !
Ghostly Figures
Hemswell was abandoned over 35 years ago, but unlike most of Britain's wartime bases, it was not demolished. Most original buildings are still intact, though many are rented out to small businesses and the landing strip now attracts a busy weekend car boot sale.
However, even now something very strange has been happening at a small memorial erected to its wartime role. Traders began to report seeing ghostly uniformed figures standing by it smoking and having a conversation, and an Airman on fire running along the road who falls and disappears but not before screaming out loud and then there's the sighting of a polish airman with an eye patch in uniform who speaks to you before going on his way.
The heavy drone of large propeller aircraft is often heard, even though the site is not now on any flight path. Stranger still is the poltergeist activity, where objects are moved around the room, people being touched or spoken
I came across this while I was checking out the Phil Whyman website. I've been discussing this with Steven we both agreed it was worth posting to hopefully get a a group of us together for this.
The Ghost Walk + Final Sleepover looks like good value.
Please have a read of the following link think & let us know if there is any interest
