This one could be interesting it is haunted by a bear.
The legend of this haunting involves the spirit of the last wild bear killed in England. It is said that he (or she) was killed near this castle and the unhappy ghostly bear has haunted the castle since.
Anyone who can find it on a map though gets a Blue Peter Badge ;D

CORRECTION: Verdley Castle is in Fernhurst which is about 4 miles south of Haslemere on the A286 so it's even closer than I thought (Midhurst is further south and both castles could be done in the same day)
You probably want to get on the A3 near Farnham and head south going to Petersfield and then get off the A286 towards Haslemere and pass it.
I would allow 30 minutes for travelling

Or the A287 from Farnham would get you straight to Haslemere and then head to Fernhurst

Sorry no Blue Peter Badge I know where Fernhurst is but the castle/house/hunting lodge is somewhere in Fernhurst but I only have coordinates no actual street name.
I saw the ghostbusker site last night, very dodgey looking clanger with a harp.

Oh poo !!!
It will be like Berry Pomeroy Castle and it will be have brown signs pointing you to it as Fernhurst will nothing else to offer. It will also be either on top of a hill as all Castles had good visual couverage of on coming attack or will be on the edge of a steep drop or water to shield it from attack on one side

My mate Karl lived in Fernhurst, for a while, so I will give him a call to see if he knows the location.

Cool. When I worked in Haslemere one of the ladies there lived in Fernhurst and I sometimes gave her a lift home.
There are some really good ghost stories around the whole area and there is a haunted slaughter house there as well and also the road that goes into fernhurst has a lay by where an old woman has been seen up a tree. She supposedly cursed the town and village when they made her move on. There have been numerous traffic accidents there where people have just pulled out in front of lorries when they couldnt have missed them.
Betty the lady I worked with was waved down by a black limo and loads of people standing in the road one night and she floored it and went round. She pulled up at the bottom of the hill, a bit shaken being a single woman on her own in the car, and looked back and there was nothing there. All the people and the car were gone.

Hmmm, now you mention it, I do recall some rumours about a ghostly old lady wandering around Fernhurst.
