This location is just off the m40 near Oxford. Its a ruin of an Abbey and is listed as haunted. We have been doing a bit of spending lately and I thought it would be good to do a freebie, along the lines of King Johns and St Michaels, whilst the weather is still good.

Situated in my home town of Oxfordshire, this historical 12th century nunnery lies next to the famous River Thames, wood stock! Between Godstow Lock and King's Weir can be found the remains of the Benedictine Nunnery dedicated to St. Mary and St. John the Baptist. It was built in 1138 It was finally burnt down by Thomas Fairfax (Captain-General of Cromwell’s New Model Army) during the Civil War in 1646.
So... why is this nunnery haunted? Well, its a love story gone wrong. Rosmond Clifford was the lover of Henry II. They were together for several years, after he imprisoned his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, when she supported their sons in a rebellion against him. It was a love triangle gone wrong.Eleanor was a jealous woman and resented his love for Rosmand. In 1176 Rosmond died and many people believed Elenor poisoned her. She was buried before the high altar in the nunnery church and was layed 1191. The Bishop of Lincoln visited her and was dismayed to find her buried in the church, so her body was removed and reinterred in the chapter house. This is the woman who is belived to wonder the now, remains of the chapel, still looking for peace.
