Does anyone have any knowledge of the History of Fleet Pond?
A work collegue of mine has been there on a number of nights now and has sensed a definite presense in the same spot each time. The temperature drops significantly also. Even during the hot summer nights we have had he said it definitely still cold in one particular spot.
I have heard a story of a monk or hooded figure who has been seen walking or sitting down by the waters edge and just heard that the pond used to serve as fishing reserves for the monastry. I dont have a clue which monastry however as this is all news to me.
So anyone have any info? This could be a future vigil material. Im going to get the location of the presense and cold spot later.

I found this in 'Haunted Inns of Hampshire' by Roger Long the other day and remembered you were looking for info. The Inn refered to is Dakota's thats on the banks of the pond but the haunting isn't connected to Dakota's but to the pond.
Fleet pond was the biggest fishing lake in hampshire, about 3 quarters of a mile long and covering 130 acres. The monks of St Swithins at Winchester used to fish there long before the railway cut it in two.
The ghost is an attractive lady dressed in white and is said to be very enigmatic. She lay dormant for over a hundred years before reappearing in the 1960's. She is probably a nun and may have had some clandestine assignation with one of the St Swithins monks although this is purely supposition and no one really knows.
Not much I know, but its a start and maybe worth researching.

Thats interesting.
I heard it was a monk but Im guessing a monk or a Nun would look the same when fully hooded.
The only problem I have is why would a Monk travel all the way to Fleet to fish when there are numerous waterways and lakes etc at Winchester.
The Fleet pond society says the land between Crookham and I think Hawley was left to the Church in someones will as a sure fired ticket into heaven. It happened to contain the largest body of fresh water in Hants and I suppose as it was owned by the church its assumed Monks fished there. Though there is no sign of where they may have stayed unless it was destroyed over the years.
Good spot though and definitely worthy of a vigil I feel.

Just found this, I haven't read it all but it mentions the pond being part of a gift of land to the Old Monastery in Winchester, so theres the Winchester connection!http://www.fleetpondsociety.co.uk/history_of_fleet_pond.htm
