The ghost of an unknown Cavalier has been seen wandering the streets and the nearby common. The ghost, with long hair, loose cloak and broad-rimmed hat, is thought to be that of a messenger who died in combat with Roundheads, whilst trying to deliver a message to the Royalist garrison.

Hi I used to live in Hook, its somewhere I miss a lot, I used to walk through the surrounding countryside and commons a lot with my dog Star, and some odd things have happened, I was walking back from a friends house in Odiham once at around 11 pm, and when walking in the Holt lane common woods I heard footsteps following me and surrounding me, it was pitch black and I kept stumbling over logs even though it was probably just deer or wild horses, it frightened me half to death, I do find it odd though that a wild animal would follow me through the woods, I took the longer road route after that and skipped the short cut via the common I have heard about that cavalier with the sword also, it is supposed to be the spirit of a civil war soldier, and its seen in the common that is now mostly houses and business parks. I have heard that the top White hart pub next to the police station is haunted by a women that was murdered there over a 100 years ago, apparently one of the past land lords murdered his wife with some chains, and if I remember rightly the chains can be heard rattling on occasions, and the apparition of a lady can be seen gliding up the upstairs hallway. I know some of the bar staff that have worked in there in the past and some of them said that they often feel as if they are being watched. I am moving back to the Basingstoke area soon, it beats where I live now. I have studied Paganism for a while now so I adore nature and the countryside so have explored the Hook and surrounding countryside well, and learnt about the spiritual side to the natural country in and around Hook, I think it’s a great place for paranormal activity, but yet you don’t hear that many stories about paranormal happenings around the Hook, Odiham, and Hartley Whitney areas, which is a shame. Hi Faeden, Glad you found the front door in the end I think any of us in your position would have taken the long way round that night, as you say most wild animals are usualy more scared of us than we are of them. Unless it was one of these big cats that supposedly stalk the country side after escaping from zoos etc... Not that Im trying to put ideas in peoples heads. Have you been down to King Johns Castle in Odiham? Thats quite an atmospheric little place down by the canal and very peaceful at night. Anyway welcome on board

Hi Spooky Thanks for the welcome You know many do not believe me and think that I am a lair because I have experienced just about every paranormal experience there is (not that big cat sightings are paranormal) but I saw a large black cat in a field in Greywell when driving home with a friend at night from Basingstoke, it was a clear night and the moon was bright, and saw a figure in the middle of the field, my friend who was driving slammed on his brakes and reversed the car and shined his full beam on it, it looked like a large cat, its eyes illuminated green, it then bounced away like a cat would, it was an exciting experience. Just for the record I have seen a ghost/spirit, a UFO (being what I saw was unidentified) that cat and have had many other more minor experiences, which causes people to believe I must be making it up, but I am used to it, and know in my self what I have seen and experienced, I do not know why some people experience unexplained things and some do not, however I am thankful. I have been to King Johns castle yes many times, for the reason you stated, it’s a lovely place, and very atmospheric, I miss it greatly, I have a lot of great memories around that area, my dog Star also sometimes refused to go near it. The local pub The Water Witch ( a beautiful pub garden in the summer) is supposed to be haunted by you guessed it a water witch that used to live on a canal boat at the end of the pub garden, the spirit is said to be a friendly spirit that supposedly looks over the people who dwell there for a brew, and who work there, most of the inhabitants say they feel a welcoming and comforting feeling, and at the same time feel like they are being watched over. I don’t know if this is a true story or not, but the atmosphere in the pub is very welcoming, but that could just be because of the friendly bar staff and land lord ;D All the best Faeden

Thats what I like about these forums out there they are made up of people who have been there and seen this and that and the other. We have all seen and been on the receiving end of the rolled eyes and the deep sighs etc. at some point and it is frustrating at times so we come on here and have a good old rant. Im thinking of installing a cyber punch bag You will have to let us know when your back in the area as we sometimes have a social in some spooky pub in the area and if we are lucky, usualy when Sue is about, we can sometimes get a lock in as well.

A cyber punch bag LOL sounds like something I could often do with….. Most of my friends don’t talk about the paranormal, so I tend to keep it quite, unless they ask, because they have the OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK attitude when it comes to that stuff. My best friend is the son of a vicar, so he often talks about it, but he is suspicious about the whole thing, because he is taught the whole all paranormal activity is a demonic thing, I have explained it to him more and he is less ignorant about it now, he has started asking me questions as if he is really interested in the ideas about ghosts and spirits, he even asked me what happens to you when you die a few months ago, so educating people when they ask for it is the best way to make people listen and understand these things, people who shout at people and preach to them seem to make the people they are preaching to run further away, I don’t have a problem with people thinking its all rubbish, or that I am a lunatic, as I can see why they would think like that, if I had not experienced so much I would think the same. I will be sure to give you a shout if I am ever down that way, or when I finally move back, I have lots of friends down there, but no one you can have a good chat about paranormal things, as they are all into fast cars, drinking, clubbing (not all at the same time I might add lol) and other things I have grown out of, so it will be good to meet and have a chat about everything paranormal, thanks for the invite All the best Faeden
