I'm going to contact this hotel also...........
This traditional building, situated in what is now a somewhat new town, was once a coaching inn and dates back to 1615. It was apparently frequented in later years by the likes of Prince Regent who would stop for refreshment on his way to Brighton.
Not long after The George was opened, it employed the services of a night watchman by the name of Mark Hueston who was apparently 6ft 6, and weighed over 18 stones, and was an excellent deterrent to any potential theives. Rumour has it that a guest poisoned the bottle of wine that Hueston used to keep by his bedside, the reason why was never discovered. It's believed that the poltergeist activity which occurs at the inn, along with shapeless manifestations, and lights turning themselves on and off belong to the former night watchman.
