The village of Bramshot, not far from Farnham but in Hampshire, has numerous reported ghosts. The manor house is haunted by an Elizabethan priest an elderly Quaker and a White Lady thought to be a former owner called Lady Hole. There is also a ghostly game keeper called Adams, the phantom form of Elizabeth Butler who drowned herself in 1745 and still walks beside the slow moving stream, a girl who comes out of the church wearing a poke bonnet and disappears through the church wall, where a Grey Lady is seen by another wall where she committed suicide. Here also is a ghostly pot-boy who disappears almost as soon as he is seen, a group of Tudor ghosts who haunt a leafy lane of the village, a pretty woman and child who haunt the lodge house, a phantom coach and horses has been known to clatter through the village, a mounted Cavalier rides through a hedge and a murdered highwayman is borne silently along a lane on the back of his faithful horse. Phantom animals here also include a black pig and a white calf-like creature about the size of a large cat! Finally the unmistakable figure of Boris Karloff, who played the monster in Frankenstein(1931), has been seen in the vicinity of Roundabout, the cottage he loved towards the end of his life. Simon.
