This happened to me about 91 - 95 I cant recall which year exactly but they were incidents that happened over a period of time.
I worked in what was then a Southern Electric Showroom in the shopping centre in Farnborough.
As I spoke to people in the centre, as you tend to, I heard tales of a young girl being seen by the security guards at night and staff at Sainsburys had heard what sounded like a young girl laughing and playing in the stock room.
The Manager at Martins (newsagents) reported that one morning after he had locked up the night before he had come in to find all the newspapers open and very precisely covering the whole shop, Floor and counters. There had been no one in since he left or arrived the next day.
My experiences in the showroom started when there were just two of us in the shop one day and I was in the toilet on the 1st floor. I was going about my business when I heard a female voice singing in a "la la la la" fashion and going right past the bathroom door down towards the stock room. My initial thoughts were why had my colleague left the shop unmanned. One of the primary rules there was you never left the shop uncovered due to shop lifters etc. So on leaving the bathroom I followed the singing into the stockroom to see why they were so happy and see who was covering the shop floor. There was nobody there. This was really weird and I went straight down stairs to see if anyone had been up there. My colleague was taking electricity bills with a very long Queue so was telling the truth when she said she hadnt left the area. The public cant get up there as access is prevented via a security lock which required a combination.
Another day I was making the Tea when from the training room, which is next to the kitchen, I heard a loud noise of the TV coming on an untuned channel. It was the usual "sshhshshhshshhsh" type sound you would accompany with the snow on the screen. Something had caused the TV to come on like that and also to have the volume up full and make that sound. I went in and turned the TV off. Then it struck me that these modern TVs dont make that whooshing noise. So I turned it back on and got the blue screen and silence. No static and no noise whatsoever. I hadnt done anything other than turn it off and on. I tried it a couple of times and couldnt replicate the effect.
There were a number of smaller incidents during my time there where things were moved or opened etc but nothing you couldnt explain via other means.
The real biggey for me though was one evening after I had locked up shop my colleague had gone up to put the kettle on and left me in the accounts section, it was like a bank with the glass screen, counting the money and closing the till. As I sat there I happened to look up and across the showroom and in front of me in full view was an old man dressed in a beige raincoat and cloth cap with white hair and dark rimmed glasses looking at a cooker. He was about 10ft away from me so I could see very clearly and can still picture it to this day.
My initial reaction was that I thought I had locked somebody into the showroom. It could happen. So I called out to him and asked if he wanted some help. He didnt reply and just stood there as clear as day looking down towards the cooker, not moving. Thinking the poor old guy must have been deaf I got up and went into the showroom. Once I had left the accounts booth he was gone. There are no exits once the place is locked so there is nowhere he could have gone. I really did search around the shop floor for him and there was no trace. I checked the front doors and they were still locked.
As you could imagine I took a bit of stick when I told my colleagues about what I had seen but none of them liked being alone there or locking up at night, even before I told them, so they all must have sensed something in that shop.
I later got promoted to Haslemere showroom where I was made manager. A few months after being there I got a phone call just as I was leaving one evening from one of my colleagues from Farnborough. She had just seen the Old man in exactly the same place and wearing exactly the same clothes. With the shop all locked again she couldnt explain it either.
The showroom isnt there anymore as Southern Electric closed them all but the building certainly still is.
As a side note a friend of mine worked in a shop next to the showroom and had some experiences as well but as she may well end up posting on here one day I wont spoil her story.
