Having just had a conversation with my mother, who has always been interested in all things spiritual (very much into mediation, incense and candle burning etc.) I thought I'd tell the tale she has just related to me. For some reason my mum has never shared her story with me before.
Years ago, back in the 1980's my father bought a plot of land in Headley Down, Hampshire where he built a bungalow on the site. The bungalow was later called Little Summer, which I believe it is no longer called. I will refrain from naming the road out of courtesy to those who live there. After the bungalow had been built and my family had moved in, the building behind us was bought by another family with the intention of knocking down the existing house to rebuild on the site.
The night after the day the house was bulldozed my mother was awoken by the sound of people laughing and shouting. This then changed to the sound of crying and sobbing. My mum said it was so clear that she evenually got out of bed to investigate, believing that the family were having a late night celebration. As soon as she opened the back door and stepped outside the sounds stopped and all became quiet. My mum, puzzled went back to bed. No sooner had she laid back down to sleep then the noises started again, first the happy laughter then the crying. Once again she left the bed to look outside and again the sounds ceased as soon as she opened the back door. There was no sounds coming from the building site or the 40ft caravan the neighbours family were temporarily living in. Finally frustrated and very tired she returned to bed and eventually managed to block out the noise and fall asleep. The next day she asked my father if he had heard the disturbance during the night and said he hadn't heard a thing and had slept the whole night through. The one and only night that my mum was ever troubled by these noises was the night after the house was demolished. Is it possible that the energies trapped inside the building were released and if so is it also possible that the house that now stands there could have paranormal activity?
A final note to this tale is that not long after the new building on our neighbour's site was completed the mother of the family was diagnosed with breast cancer and died shortly after. For some reason, that is she unable to explain, my mum feels that her neighbours death was somehow linked with the completion of the new house.
