Ilam Hall

Hi,

I just typed the following out and thought I would share the tale from this weekend on here.

At one point we were in typical YHA room called the “Manifold” where a group of children went running into the main house after seeing someone run across the grounds screaming and then begin banging on the window to come in one night.

This ghost supposedly climbed through this tiny window causing them all to leave the room. We pulled the curtains shut as some of the team couldn’t handle seeing the window and did the usual vigil thing then decided nothing was happening so went to the adjoining room “Dovedale”. After some time in there we felt someone was in the hallway watching us so we all went back to “Manifold” again and the curtains had been pulled open about 2 foot which was just the exact width of the window this spook had climbed through and no more. The curtains framed it exactly.

This got everyone excited so we pulled them shut again and went back to the other room and left a camera running. We sat in the dark listening and once again everyone felt that someone was in the hall way looking in. The door was shut but we all just knew there was someone out there, like you do.

Everyone decided we had had enough and we turned the light on and got to gather our senses when the door opened behind me and was pulled shut with this almighty slam. I couldn’t see it happening but heard it and seeing the teams faces was enough, I turned and had to pin this door shut with both hands as I had a team screaming behind me. Looking back I wish I had pulled it open so badly but it was spur of the moment reaction and I wasn’t letting whatever it was in. Im glad to say no one was too traumatised but we ran across the courtyard finishing the vigil 15 mins early. There was no one else on a vigil near us and if there had been we would have heard anyone coming in through two sets of very creaky old doors.

I was running on adrenaline and it was a spur of the moment thing but yes it does seem silly looking back. ;D When you got a group of people screaming at you and a door slamming behind you with such force you dont have a lot of time to chill out and try and connect. ;D

I did have a strong smell of earth like fresh soil and cold when they made me sit next to the window but thats all I got from the room.

Oh and I must add we did ask to be scared out of our wits so we got what we asked for so I dont hold any grudges.

I stayed at Ilam hall on a team building weekend and made some new friends there. I was sharing the room with 5 other girls,including one of the girls I had made friends with this was the elevated room(number 12 as far as I can remember), we kept hearing noises just outside the door like a scratching and then like someone was running up and down the stairs so I decided to pull the door open quickly to shock the person or people trying to scare us(thinking it was the boys who were also part of this weekend), so I did so,there was nobody there but it appaears that others had heard it when we were talking at breakfast the next morning so that night a few of us said we couldn't sleep and wanted to read in the lounge area so as to not disturb our room mates, 2 girls(myself and my new friend) and 3 boys. We ventured into the courtyard after hearing screaming and crying sounds and saw shadows moving over by the detatched building so ventured back inside,we then heard screaming from the other youths on this team building weekend so ran up the stairs to find some girls had been attempting to sneak to the boys rooms and got thrown backwards in the hallway so I tried myself along with a few other girls and we got pinned to the wall by an invisible arm and we literally couldn't move,our whole body was stiff but the boys could walk to and thro no problem! The next day we were doing some photography work in the garden and we were slacking a bit and sat in the tower stairs part that leads down to the lower level garden and could hear a moaning and a banging and footsteps sounding like they were coming up the stairs and then a scream and a choking noise,we went running out as others came running towards us as they thought it was us screaming,the scream had been heard by everybody and quite a few young people both male and female between the ages of 16 and 24 heard and witnessed these events. I wouldn't go back in a hurry!
