When I first tuned in with my first pendulum I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I recall spending quite a time asking all these questions and was fascinated how it worked. I was in a room with a couple of grands worth of home entertainment with a rock crystal hanging on a lace. Quite funny when you think about it but they say little things please .....
I think once you trust yourself that you know its not you moving it and the answers your getting are spot on its a great feeling, dont you think?
Not had the same sort of success with the rods yet but Im sure its only a matter of practise.

I've always been interested in try both pendulum and rod dowsing. I've got a small quartz crystal to try as a pendulum and just made some rods from old wire coat hangers, I found a couple of ball point pen shafts make great handles allowing the rods to move really freely. I didn't want to go out and spend money on these items before knowing if I could do it. Anyway does anyone have any advise for a begginer?
Thanks, Simon.

To be honest the link above covers everything you should need. I did find you dont want the string or chain too long but it needs to be long enough to swing. Its a little bit trial and error really. I started off by asking it show me a Yes and kept with the yes until it was realy swinging one way. Then I asked it show me a No and the swing slowed and it started swing at an exact 90 degree angle to the previous swinging motion. I alternated between yes and no to make sure these were the right motions. When I was happy they were I asked it was my name Steven? I got a yes. I said am I male? Again Yes I asked if the grass outside was blue. I got a No I asked if our woodend table was made of glass. I got a no. You get the idea. You can then get somebody to hide something in the house and try looking for it. I think I did it at the time with the TV remote. It should be able to tell you if its in the room again with yes and no answers. Then the next stage is to get it to point or swing in the direction it is. This isnt quite so easy as you have to take small steps or chart the lines and see where they cross. There are some interesting charts on the link above which I printed out and had a go with as well. There are other answers apart from yes and no but I like black and white Hope that helps...

Thanks Steven, I have already started trying the show me yes/no bit it seems to spin clockwise for yes and anticlockwise for no but it doesn't rotate very strongly. I'll keep at it though, thanks again.
Simon.

From what I have read and seen its different for each person. Does seem though once it has settled it doesnt change after that.

I have spent some time this weekend, with the help of Steven, trying to find a suitable pendulum to use for dowsing outdoors. I have a nice amythst crystal pendulum at the moment but I have found that when I use it outside it is not quite heavy enough. A slight breeze can effect it, which can obviously make it difficult to determine if I'm actually getting an an answer or the wind is catching it. I've been ideally looking for a brass pendululm as I used one at the Hellfire Caves and liked it. I haven't found one yet, though I have found a few heavier crystal pendulums, that though I haven't felt particularly drawn to, would do. I bought my last pendulum off a website, but this time I'd prefer to actually handled the pendulum to get a feel for it before buying. The following link is for pendulum kit, which has everything you could need & isn't too bad a price either. www.whsmith.co.uk/WHS/Go.asp?isbn=1859060374&DB=220

i must admit to having been an adamant sceptic to the pendulum, and rods until i used them
and i found the results fascinating
and i am now a firm believer

Do you have a preference?
I dont seem to get anything with the rods but the pendulum works a treat. Its seems to be different for everyone though.

Hi Julie I remember years ago using a ring on a piece of cotton for a pendulum, and then I forgot about dowsing until a few months ago! I now find it quite addictive but sometimes wonder if it's me moving it subconsciously The knack is to ask a question you really don't know the answer to and then, when you can, see if it's correct! Mind you this has worked for me as well, so I suppose I'm just being cynical! Teresa

hi teresa
the cotton on string is also meant to tell the gender of the children you are going to have
i did that when i was 15 and it said i would have 4 children and it would go in the order of
girl, boy, boy, girl
well i have only 2 children but i did have a girl, first then a boy
so it was half right lol
and i did ask the pendulum some questions and it answered, but i'm not sure how much of it was my own willpower to make it do what i wanted
does that make sense

Hi Julie Yes it makes sense! That's why a good test is to ask a question that at the time you don't know the answer to. People keep telling me about the ideomotor effect, where the muscles in your hand/wrist whatever are subconsciously moving the pendulum. I try to keep an open mind on the subject! Teresa
